Great Old Pubs of Adelaide Historic Pub-crawl - DRAFT June 2026 For review only, not for distribution, incomplete and frequently changing The 'Great Old Pubs of Adelaide Historic Pub-crawl' originated in a front bar discussion about how to preserve those congenial and drinker-friendly historic Adelaide pubs before they succumb to redevelopment and facading or to reinvention as restaurants or clubs. The project is a very modest attempt to encourage responsible drinkers to visit and engage with the pubs - and their histories - that epitomise Adelaide's 'pub culture' through a self-guided pub-crawl. A straw poll of about twenty publicans and patrons identified what they considered the 12 "Greatest Old Pubs of Adelaide". The DRAFT guide To enable anyone interested to test the guide (any comments or recommendations here) an early DRAFT version of the guide can be viewed and downloaded below. The 12 selected pubs are plotted on Frearson's Plan of the City of Adelaide (1877), named and shown as red dots (check the opening times for the Grace Emily). Other historic Adelaide pubs' are also shown (black dots) as well as those that have been converted to gastropub/restaurants, function centres, clubs or similar or that are currently being reinvented/redeveloped (grey dot); the green line is the route of the free Connector bus.
